Study for Residential Complex

2012

The intervention called “Le Darsene” concerns an area of the City of San Giuliano Milanese located close to South Park.
The study is based on some key concepts such as the feasibility of the concept represented, a compositional flexibility of housing units, continuity, and interpenetration between built space and green areas, environmental sustainability, and eco-compatibility.
The type unit is designed to allow the possibility of completing the project and construction timings to the real estate actual market conditions.
Furthermore, the great flexibility of the space allows the widest compositional possibility allowing to vary, within the form unit, number, and dimension of the housing units.
The general mood of this work takes into account the facade facing south, east and west, thus secluding the service areas towards the north.
The design of the type unit, together with the free planimetric aggregation, produces extremely fragmented frontal lenses that play together with light and shadow and cause sudden changes in vision.
The balconies of the apartments are conceived as “open spaces”, thus extending the interior area (which might also include plants and flowers), through variable dimensions, in order to achieve maximum personalization of living.
These buildings are designed to be made of wood for cost cutting and reduction of both work and time construction; the use of prefabricated wood combined with a repeated modular design contributes to cost-cutting in both production and construction, while at the same time offers high-performance energy.
