Recovery of the Roof Space

2012 | 2014

The recovery of the roof space affected a building built in the ’10s in an area south of Milan that, precisely in that historical period, expanded rapidly by deleting the countryside between the bastion circle and the railway line leading to Porta Romana’s freight station.
This building develops on the corner of Via Crema and Via Trebbia and consists of two factory buildings with different typological aspects.
The project has allowed the recovery and transformation of the building tallest substructure (which remains on the sloping roof with dormers) as well as the actual rise of the lowest building (which then turns out to be flat roof) with the realization of 5 new apartments.
The really interesting aspect of this experience was the possibility of making the intervention completely in wood, especially and above all with regard to the elevation of a factory floor plan overlooking via Trebbia.
The perimeter roof spaces are therefore entirely made of wood structures (type X-lam): this constructive choice has allowed avoiding overload of the carriers of the building and at the same time has allowed obtaining high-performance insulation, dry construction work on site with pre-assembled elements, quickness and simplicity in assembly and eventually time-saving.
