Competition for the School Center

2011

Among the architecture competition into which Studio A Side has taken part, it is worth mentioning the preliminary project concerning the new school center of Piave Street of Castello di Godego, Treviso.
This contest was characterized by the complexity of the proposed theme, which wasn’t limited to the design of a school but also required the realization of a sports hall, the design of a public square, the study of a cyclo-pedonal and vehicular traffic system.
With particular attention to be given to costs and environmental sustainability and energy saving.
This is why our firm has proposed a design which includes a court planimetric layout for the school complex (developed for two floors on the ground floor), together with classrooms, service environments, canteen, gymnasium, and library.
The sports hall, in the public domain, is conceived as a “green cube”, wrapped up by the crumbling, and placed frontally with respect to the access routes to the area, assuming the role of an icon, representing Godego City’s passion for environmental sustainability.
The choice of wood for enclosure closures (external enclosure and roofing) is related to many different purposes including the high level of energy performance, low environmental impact, ability to use preassembled systems, and therefore, speed and facility of assembly, and – last but not least – pleasant aesthetic appearance.
For the design of HVAC systems (“Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning”), high-efficiency plant solutions have been proposed, providing flexible control systems, simple use, low-cost maintenance and flexibility of use in the event of future changes in indoor environments.
